Falling dart impact testing & drop tower testing help you improve and maintain the quality of your product or products through impact and sample testing.
By free falling a dart from a certain drop height, you can test the impact resistance/toughness of plastic films, laminates and paper.
Impact resistance of materials is a critical property for many applications and industries with the test results aiding the improvement of product development and research.

A Falling Dart Impact Tester (FDIT) is used to test the impact strength of packaging & building materials such as plastic film, sheets, and laminated packaging. This test uses variously weighted darts to measure the failure point of a test specimen. This test method is highly accurate & repeatable and is ideal for quality control and packaging manufacturers.
By testing your packaging materials with an FDIT you can improve the quality of sheets, films, and laminates. This leads to fewer failures, waste production and costs. All of our test equipment is customisable and can be made to meet whatever conditions you want to throw at your materials.
Our range of our very own FDITs, as well as those from Oakland Instruments, are incredibly accurate and versatile. We can calibrate and service existing testers as well as supply you with spare parts and the latest advancements in impact testing. Whether you want a precision load cell, velocity meter, or drop heights between 30mm and 2m, we have the perfect FDIT for your testing needs.
We have Falling Dart Impact Testers that conform to the following standards (test methods).
Primarily for the impact testing of plastic pipes, it has many applications and conforms to the requirements of the following standards:
ISO 3127 Round-the-clock method
EN 744, Round-the-clock method
EN 1411 Staircase method
ASTM D2444 A B & C impact strikers
BS 2782 – Methods of testing plastics.
Our Impact Drop Tower – Drop Weight Testers feature touch screen control/display and a motorised hammer lifting and cover drop heights from 0 to 3000mm with a maximum drop energy of 300 Joules.
