Viscometer Calibration & Repair

Onsite & Offsite

How do you know your viscometers and flow cups are providing accurate and reliable viscosity measurements? The answer is through regular calibration.

AML’s expert engineers are all highly trained and experienced in viscometer calibration, with all viscometer and flow cup calibrations performed with UKAS certified calibration oils.

Knowing the viscosity of liquids like food, chemical, oils, varnishes, and coatings is important for many different industries from chemical and constructions to inks and paints.

If you use your viscometer for too long without putting it through a calibration service, you risk inconsistent product performance, stability, and texture. For instance, have a look at your toothpaste the next time you clean your pearly whites. If it’s too hard, it would be impossible to squeeze out the tube. Too runny, and you would end up using too much toothpaste, along with the struggle of getting it on the brush.

As well as offering on-site and off-site viscometer calibration services that are traceable and ISO 9001 certified, we can also repair most brands and types of viscometer.

On-site viscometer & flow cup calibration service

Stay right where you are. We’ll arrange a mutually-convenient date to come visit you at your premises to calibrate your flow cups or viscometers. This is our most popular viscometer calibration service, saving you pennies and offering practicality when you have multiple machines requiring calibration.

Our friendly, knowledgeable engineers will work with your laboratory personnel to ensure the minimum of disruption and offer helpful support to help you keep your viscosity testing equipment operating at its full potential.

Off-site viscometer & flow cup calibration service

Don’t worry – our consistent level of service quality doesn’t drop if you choose our off-site viscometer calibration services. The technicians and dispatch team at our in-house laboratory work hard day in and day out to deliver accurate results and quick turnaround times for our customers.

Our standard off-site calibration turnaround time is five working days, but can be reduced to 24-48 hours if pre-arranged. We also offer a calibration collection and drop-off service for local businesses within a 40-mile radius of our UKAS-accredited lab.

All our calibrations are fully traceable to national standards by using UKAS ISO 17025 certified calibration oils and thermometers. Our viscometer calibration fluids are manufactured in the UK by Paragon Scientific who are world leaders in producing viscosity calibration standards.

Types of viscometers and flow cups AML can calibrate

From cone and plate viscometers to falling rod viscometers and rotational viscometers, we can calibrate many different types of viscometer from multiple manufacturers.

Brookfield Viscometers and TQC Sheen viscometers are the most common viscometers we calibrate, but we are by no means limited to just these brands (see list below).

  • Brookfield / AMETEK
  • TQC Sheen
  • Rhopoint Instruments
  • Krebs viscometer calibration
  • ICI
  • Cannon Instruments
  • Elcometer
  • Anton Paar
  • Viscometers UK
  • Lamy Rheology
  • HAAKE
  • BYK Gardner
  • Wells-Brookfield
  • Research Equipment (London) Ltd. (REL).

We also undertake a large number of viscosity flow cup calibrations and dip cup calibration from Elcometer, QC Labs, and TQC Sheen.

How often should I have my viscometer calibrated?

The frequency of viscometer calibration depends on your usage, the level of accuracy required, and the manufacturer’s recommendations, which can be typically found in the instruction manual.

It is recommended to calibrate your viscometer at least once a year or more frequently if the apparatus is heavily used or has been subjected to extreme conditions. Regular checks using viscosity reference fluids can also help detect any drift or changes in the instrument’s performance.

How AML can help you achieve precise viscosity measurements
