NK Paint Impact Tester

NK Paint Impact Tester

Manufactured by Neurtek

This impact tester for paint provides fast, visual, and repeatable results when performing impact tests on coatings, enamels, and paints.

The test measures the material’s resistance to adhesion, cracking, flexibility, and shock with complete precision.

It’s ideal for quality control labs and R&D centres, as well as complying with the main impact testing standards ASTM D2794, ISO 6272, UNE 48285, among others.

Benefits

  • Robust, versatile and internationally compliant design makes it an essential piece of equipment for quality control and product development in industrial and research sectors.
  • Manufactured from robust and durable materials.
  • Configurable according to standard or type of material.
  • Allows accurate determination of the coating’s cracking point.

How does the impact test work?

The procedure consists of dropping a mass with a semi-spherical punch from a determined height onto the coated panel. Depending on the method used, the following can be performed:

  • Direct test: The impact is applied to the painted side, directly observing possible damage or loss of adhesion.
  • Indirect test: The blow is produced from the back of the panel, analysing the coating’s ability to deform without fracturing.

Both methods are included in the main international standards (ASTM, ISO, UNE) and allow both the weight and the impact height to be varied in order to determine the coating’s resistance limit.

What’s included?

The NK Paint Impact Tester impact includes:

  • Base with stable support.
  • Graduated guide column for height adjustment.
  • Impact mass with support ring.
  • Optional kits for different methods and standards.

It easily adapts to various technical configurations and is supplied with accessories according to the standard to be complied with (see downloadable data sheet).

Standards

• UNE EN ISO 6272-1: Paints and varnishes — Rapid deformation tests (impact resistance) — Part 1: Falling-weight
test, large-area indenter.
• UNE EN ISO 6272-2: Part 2: Falling-weight test, small-area indenter. Required by Qualicoat for the accreditation of
coating laboratories.
• ASTM D2794: Standard Test Method for Resistance of Organic Coatings to the Effects of fast Deformation (Impact).
