Shear

Shear strength testing uncovers how different materials react when force is applied to them in different ways (forces applied parallel to the material surface). The test is typically performed using specialised shear strength testing machines such as servo-hydraulic universal testing machines.

By measuring the maximum sheer stress the specimen can withstand before failure, you can make a reliable prediction of its performance in real-world applications. Industries that regularly carry out shear strength tests include aerospace, construction, and manufacturing.
