Gloss

Gloss is measured by shining a light of known intensity at a surface and quantifying the reflectance at a specific angle. This task is carried out using a gloss meter, with the most commonly used measurement angles being 20°, 60°, and 85°. They provide an objective way to evaluate the gloss of a surface and tell you how lustrous or shiny an object is.

We also supply goniophotometers and specialist 45° and 75° gloss meters.  An angle of 45° is specified for the measurement of ceramics, films, textiles, and anodised aluminium, whereas 75° is specified for paper.

Always budget and plan for regular calibration of your gloss measuring instruments too, as this helps guarantee measurement quality and traceability, as well as ensure your products meet desired aesthetic standards.
