S-TEST Paper Compression Tester
Manufactured by Techlab Systems
Developed in 2018 as an alternative to the CMT method, this S-TEST compression tester accurately measures the compressive strength of medium paper samples via the S-Test method (4mm short distance compression between jaws and 1mm offset).
The S-TEST is performed using a 15mm wide medium paper specimen that’s compressed until failure occurs.
Unlike the CMT test where multiple factors (incorrect flutes, inadequate tape adhesion, etc.) can affect the final result, the S-Test requires less sample preparation, is much more consistent, and can be correlated to the first plateau of the CMT.
The test should be conducted right after sample preparation or after 30 minutes for the CMT30 value. The measuring procedure is very simple — you need to a cut a paper sample with 15mm width and place it into the clamping jaws. Now press the start button, and the clamps will close and start moving in compression till the sample fails. The force upon failure of the test sample is measured and shown in kN/m or Lb/in.
