Roughness & Porosity

Surface roughness is a critical physical property for paper and paper based products both coated and non-coated papers usually have a roughness specification.  This is important for the papers printability and also the feel of the finished paper.

All the methods on this page use the air leakage method. Where a critically sized measuring head is used and high precision air flow & pressure regulation devices are used to measure the air leaked by the surface finish of the paper. A rough paper will pass more air than a smooth one.
