Our UKAS-accredited dry block calibration services help strictly regulated sectors such as aerospace, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals achieve high levels of precision in their temperature measurements.
AML Instruments can perform UKAS dry block calibrations from -40°C to 660°C (using high accuracy Isotech probes and indicators). Tests are made to check temperature accuracy, and axial and radial uniformity and stability.
Available onsite (we come to you) or offsite (you send us your temperature measuring instruments), feel free to book in for a calibration service using any of the contact options in the red box below.
Alternatively, take a peek further down the page to discover more about our professional dry block calibration services and the benefits of using dry block temperature calibrators.

A dry block temperature calibrator consists of a temperature-controlled metal block that’s heated or cooled to the desired temperature using an electric heater (“mini oven”) or cooler. Other block materials with high thermal conductivity (aluminium, copper, etc.) can also be used, as like metal, they reach and maintain a stable temperature.
The block has drill holes to accommodate a vast range of temperature measuring instruments and sensors, including Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs), thermocouples, and thermometers.
The device being calibrated is inserted in the block’s pre-drilled holes, and the temperature compared to the known temperature of the block.
Our engineers are quick out of the blocks Monday to Thursday, visiting businesses up and down the country to calibrate all types of test instruments.
Give us a call or email to book in for one of our engineers to visit your facility. Once we’ve sorted a mutually convenient date and time, leave it to us to come to you and ensure your dry block calibrators are calibrated accurately and efficiently.
Our standard turnaround time for offsite calibrations is five working days. Send your dry block calibrator to our in-house laboratory and we’ll get it calibrated and sent back to you securely via UPS, complete with a tracking number.
Why we always try to beat our five working day target, it’s not always possible, depending on how busy the lab is. To guarantee an even speedier turnaround, an express 24-48 hour service is also available via pre-arrangement.
If you’re local to Lincolnshire, you’re in luck, as we also offer a local calibration pick-up and drop-off service for businesses based within a 35 mile distance of our HQ (Postcode LN1 2WE).
Using dry block calibration methodologies gives the user a lot of advantages when it comes to accurate temperature calibration:
Dry block calibrators don’t contain any liquid, preventing contamination and mess.
Dry block temperature calibrators offer exceptional accuracy, usually within ±0.1°C or better. This makes them ideal for working environments where precise calibration points are vital.
These calibrators can typically achieve a wide temperature range, making them practical for different calibration needs. AML Instruments can perform UKAS temperature calibrations from -40°C to 660°C.
Please Note: We also cover a wider range of temperature calibrations that are traceable to National Standards.
The compact, lightweight nature of dry well calibrators makes them simple to transport to and from locations.
Dry block calibrators feature user-friendly interfaces, simple controls, and clear displays of the set and actual temperature. Ready to use within minutes, they make the calibration process more efficient.
Quick stabilisation times allow for faster calibration processes. Some models even come with completely integrated calibration solutions.
Depending on the size of the liquid temperature bath, dry block calibrators often have faster heating and cooling times. This makes them suitable for applications requiring rapid temperature changes, minimising downtime and maximising efficiency in the calibration process.
The portability of dry block temperature calibrators makes them the go-to for field calibration, and, when necessary, for ensuring a dry, contamination-free environment.
Two other big advantages are their higher accuracy and wide temperature range. Liquid bath calibrators usually have an accuracy within ±0.5°C or better, while being limited to temperatures below 200°C. This makes them unsuitable for applications needing superior levels of accuracy and calibrating temperature measuring instruments necessitating higher temperatures. However, they are ideal for calibrating temperature measuring equipment requiring a liquid or gas medium for accurate readings.
Both liquid bath and dry block calibration methods are suitable for various sensors and instruments, but always opt for dry block calibration for applications where precise calibration points are crucial.
AT AML Instruments, all our engineers are equipped with extensive knowledge to calibrate your dry block calibrators.
