Overview
In partnership with a world-leading manufacturer, AML Instruments designed and delivered a fully bespoke, four-station pipe pressure testing rig for Siemens Energy in Lincoln. The solution replaced a manual, paper-based process with a fully digital, automated recording system, while ensuring its construction was strong and durable, so the machine could safely operate under its designated working pressure.

Siemens Energy is one of the world’s leading energy technology organisations. The company is dedicated to working with and providing sustainable and reliable energy solutions to its customers and partners, supporting the transition to a greener planet.
Their portfolio includes conventional and renewable energy technology, such as gas and steam turbines, hybrid power plants operated with hydrogen, and power generators and transformers.
Background
Siemens Energy’s existing pipe testing process was functional but outdated, creating bottlenecks and increasing the risk of inconsistencies. It presented several operational issues:
- Manual testing setup with limited scalability.
- Handwritten reporting, leading to potential data quality errors, as well as taking up valuable workforce time that could be better utilised elsewhere.
- Lack of data traceability and audit readiness, making compliance and transparency harder.
- Inefficient workflow slowing production.
Solution & Outcome
AML Instruments worked closely with the manufacturer to design a fully bespoke four-station pressure test rig, tailored to Siemens Energy’s operational requirements. The system was designed not just to replace the old process, but to modernise and future-proof it.

The collaborative approach didn’t stop there. Once the bespoke rig had been manufactured and assembled, AML worked with the manufacturer to install and commission the system on-site, as well as providing training for the operators.
