Haze Meter Calibration | AML Instruments

Haze Meter Calibration

Used to fast and accurately measure the cloudiness or haze level in transparent or semi-transparent materials, haze meters provide accurate optical performance data for many industries. For instance, breweries use haze meters for beer quality analysis.

However, in order to effectively evaluate the optical properties of plastic films, glass, packaging, etc., you need to arrange regular calibration of your haze meter. This helps your haze meters comply with international standards to ensure consistency and reliability in your haze measurements. Widely recognised standards include ISO 13468 and ASTM D1003 — the standard test method for haze and total light transmittance.

Our haze meter calibration services

AML Instruments can calibrate all types of haze meters from bench-top haze meters to portable haze meters and integrated haze measurement systems. The process involves our engineers using a certified haze calibration standard with known haze and transmission values, which is placed in the instrument to set a reference point.

Why not book in for one of our team to calibrate your haze meters onsite, minimising disruption to your testing schedule?

Alternatively, you can send your haze meters to our in-house laboratory in Lincolnshire. We work to a turnaround time of five working days for off-site calibrations, which can be accelerated to 24-48 hours upon request. We’ll send your calibrated haze meters securely back to you via UPS, complete with tracking details via email of the date of order shipment.

Once your equipment has been calibrated by the expert hands of AML Instruments, you will receive a calibration certificate. The certificate acts as a layer of protection, confirming your test instrument measures haze parameters correctly.

How often does my haze meter need calibrating?

It’s recommended you recalibrate your haze meter annually, or as specified by the manufacturer. However, haze meters subject to harsher environments or greater use cause them to deviate from their calibrated settings, necessitating in more frequent calibrations.

Industries and applications of haze meters

Check out some of the industries and application examples using haze meters to ensure their materials meet the required optical standards.

  • Automotive & Aerospace – Ensuring headlights have high transparency.
  • Display & Electronics – Controlling the haze of LCD screens.
  • Glass Manufacturing – Testing of coated and laminated glass.
  • Medical – Measuring the transparency of syringes.
  • Paints & Coatings – Measuring resin transparency in industrial coatings.

How we can help optimise your haze measurement equipment

Our team at AML Instruments has worked hard to establish the company as a leading test equipment calibration provider. Along with haze meters from leading manufacturers like BYK Gardner, Rhopoint Instruments, and RDM, we can also calibrate other specialised optical instruments such as gloss meters and colour spectrophotometers.
