Manufactured by Neurtek

This pocket device is mainly used on coatings, varnishes, plastics, and any surface that requires surface hardness control. It specifically measures hardness and scratch resistance using a tungsten carbide tip and controlled pressure.

The durometric rod (also known as a hardness pencil) includes three springs for different pressure gauges:

  • White: 0 to 300 g (10 g graduation).
  • Blue: 0 to 1000 g (50 g graduation).
  • Red: 0 to 2000 g (100 g graduation).

Optional Extras

0.50 mm Tip ( Volvo / Van Laar)
0.75 mm Tip (Bosch)

Benefits

  • Pen-style design, comfortable and easy to handle.
  • Allows fast, portable, and precise measurement of the hardness and wear resistance of coatings, varnishes and plastics.
  • Suitable for measuring on flat and curved surfaces.
  • Adjustable to different materials and standards.
  • Improves reproducibility in hardness and resistance testing.
  • Standard 1 mm tip, with 0.75 mm and 0.5 mm options.
  • Complies with UNE EN ISO 1518 and EN 438-2 standards.
  • Supplied in a protective case.

How Does The Durometric Rod Work?

The tungsten carbide tip slides over the surface while applying constant pressure. This pressure is adjusted using the included springs or by using a caliper. This system allows adaptation to different types of materials and finishes, ensuring accurate measurements.

Typical Applications

  • Automotive (OEM and Tier 1): verification of the hardness of paints and coatings on components in accordance
with Opel, Bosch, Volkswagen and Volvo specifications.
  • Coatings R&D: comparison of formulations and validation of curing processes under development.
  • Field & Production Line Inspection: thanks to its pocket-sized design, it allows for quick inspections without
having to transport parts to the laboratory.
  • Industrial & Decorative Paints: quality control during production and on receipt of materials in accordance with ISO 1518.
  • Laminates & Decorative Materials: testing the scratch resistance of surfaces in accordance with EN 438-2.
