Shear stress / rate is the rate at which a fluid is sheared or “worked” during flow. The higher the shear rate, the lower the viscosity of the melt, meaning it flows more freely as it moves faster.
Only advanced melt flow indexers with microprocessors and specialised software like the ART-MFi30 can calculate and display the shear stress / rate, and melt viscosity alongside standard Melt Flow Rate (MFR).
