Ink & Paint Test Equipment Calibration

Specialised Calibration Service For the Ink & Paint Industry

Calibrated ink and paint testing equipment helps industries such as automotive, packaging, and pharmaceuticals accurately measure important properties like adhesion, colour consistency, gloss, ink drying time, and impact resistance.

AML is one of only a few companies able to offer a calibration and repair service for the ink and paint industry. We cover a wide range of specialist test equipment and instruments, including gloss meters, printability testers, and viscometers (see the bottom of this page for a list of typical ink and paint test equipment calibrations we can perform).

Our calibration services are available at your site to minimise disruption to your testing schedule. Alternatively, take a look at our offsite options (you send us your equipment), where we work to a standard turnaround time of five working days, although this can be reduced to 24-48 hours by prior agreement.

Ink and paint test equipment calibration services

We employ experienced, factory-trained calibration engineers with factory training on a wide range of ink and paint quality test equipment. We will save you having to get the individual manufacturers out to each piece of equipment — this will significantly reduce your calibration costs.

We’ll get our motor running

The majority of our calibration work is carried out on-site. Just give us a call or email to arrange a suitable date and time for one of our engineers to head out on the road to your facility. Some of the key benefits of our on-site calibration services include:

  • Avoid expensive shipping costs.
  • Eliminate downtime. Crucial for industries such as healthcare where continuous operation is necessary.
  • Immediate feedback. Receive immediate feedback and results from our engineers. They can also make any necessary adjustments on the spot, ensuring your instrument is functioning correctly without delay.
  • Improve flexibility. Schedule your ink and/or paint test equipment calibrations annually or increase the frequency of service depending on the circumstances (environment, usage, physical shock to the instrument, etc).
  • Maximum convenience. No need to risk transporting bulky or delicate test instruments.

Post your paint and ink test equipment to us

If your business has less critical downtime needs or can manage with spare ink and/or paint testing equipment, off-site calibration is usually more cost-effective. All off-site calibrations take place in our in-house, UKAS-accredited laboratory. This is a controlled environment, ensuring precision and repeatability of your paint/ink quality test results.

We’ll work to a standard turnaround time of five working days, unless of course you need it back sooner. To book in for our 24-48 hour express service, please contact us in advance.

A calibration collection and drop-off service is also available for businesses within a 35 mile radius of AML HQ (Postcode LN1 2WE).

Is ink and paint test equipment calibration necessary?

The highest level of accuracy and precision is essential for the ink and paint sectors. From measuring the thickness of automotive paint on aluminium panels to assessing ink durability to rubbing and scuffing on commercial packaging, aesthetics are everything when it comes to first impressions.

Neglecting calibration will only result in poor finishes and low-quality coatings, putting your customers off from the get-go.

How often should I get my ink and paint test equipment calibrated?

Always aim to book your ink and paint testing apparatus in for calibration at least once a year. However, sometimes your equipment may need calibrating more regularly. For example, if there is a noticeable decline in ink/print quality or you’re involved in critical applications or projects.

It’s always good practice to refer to the manufacturers guidelines (usually located in the instruction manual) and calibrate regularly as required, rather than giving the device a chance to fail. If this occurs, we also offer a repair service for your measuring tools.

Why choose AML Instruments to optimise your inks and paints testing processes?

There’s no blurred lines when it comes to AML’s professional calibration services. We are a SafeContractor accredited company and all our  engineers hold IOSH H&S Passports, demonstrating our commitment to health and safety excellence.

We pride ourselves on providing the most accurate, reliable, and responsive test equipment calibration service, giving you the confidence your inks, coatings and paints measurements meet quality standards.
