Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the more frequently asked questions about crane scales, but if you have a question not answered below, then please get in contact. We are happy to answer any questions or queries you may have about any of the products or services we sell.

What Is a Crane Scale, And What Do They Do?

It is a precision weighing equipment used to weigh large, heavy suspended items. Sometimes a crane scale can be referred to as a hanging scale. Knowing the weight of an object is important and ensures you do not overload a lifting device or a crane.

What Are The Benefits of Using Crane Scales?

There are several benefits to using a crane scale.

Accuracy – Our calibrated, digital crane scales provide a digital read-out far more accurate than an older, traditional scale.

Safety – A crane scale allows you to weigh heavy items without putting your staff in harm’s way. Most of our scales can be operated and read from 20 meters away.

High Capacity Weighing – Our product range enables you to choose a scale that can weigh items up to 30 tonnes.

Weigh Awkwardly Shaped Items – Not all items that require weighing will sit perfectly on a set of platform scales. So, being able to suspend them and get an accurate reading is the preferred option.

Space Saving Within Your Facility – Bench and pallet truck scales can take up a lot of space, unlike a crane scale. It can be left in place without being a hazard to other warehouse traffic, such as folk lift trucks and employees.

Time-Saving – It is nearly always easier to take the crane scale to the item rather than the item to a platform scale. This saves time and, therefore, money.

How durable are crane scales?

Providing they are treated respectfully; crane scales are durable and long-lasting. They are often made from heavy-duty materials such as steel or aluminium. The scales often have a IP67 rating enabling them to be used in various environments, withstanding harsh conditions such as docks and building sites.

How often do crane scales need to be calibrated?

There is no definitive answer to this question as it depends on several factors, including the type of crane scale, how often it is used, and in what environment. However, as a general rule of thumb, most crane scales should be calibrated yearly.

If you already have a crane scale and require a calibration service, please contact us, as we can provide that service.
